My Birthday Wish List

Sunday, June 4, 2023

It's my birthday this month, so I thought I'd share a few things that I've had my eye on!

Fiction Wanderlust Tee from The Bookish Box and Shop

Starburst Backpack from madebyhank

Super Normal 2 Sneakers from MSCHF

The Go Go Work bag in Starburst from Ban.do makes me so happy! I just love bright bursts of color, especially when it's paired with black!

These corsets from April_Jean_Reflection are amazing! This Puma one is my favorite. The creator reworks hoodies into a corset and cropped hoodie combo and their attention to detail blows me away. The seams, the lacing, the silhouette, it's all perfection. Also, it looks like it might be the most comfortable corset on the planet.

Selkie dresses are, in my opinion, the most romantic piece of clothing you can buy on the internet. Their Romance Novel dress is so breathtaking. It makes me want to hoard sheets and use 5 of them to make one beautiful and very twirly skirt.

Another piece of romantic clothing is this reversible swimsuit from Visual Mood. All of the pattern choices available are beautiful, but I specifically love that floral one.

Bathroom Refresh Mood Boards

My bathroom is sooo close to being "finished." I really just need to add those last final touches. While on a hunt to find those last few perfect items, though, I fell down a rabbit hole of bathroom decor and found some seriously amazing decor pieces.

The idea behind these mood boards is that if you have a bathroom that is a neutral color (seafoam blue is a neutral color, right?) you can drastically change the feel by just switching up a few key items. All of the boards are a little funky and vintage-inspired while still being trendy.

This first board is the feel my bathroom has currently. It's such a warm and inviting vibe, and I've had a lot of fun thrifting little yellow trinkets to put on my shelves. That big yellow towel with those beautiful details is on my wish list for sure. It's practically a piece of art.

There's something about a cheeky bath mat that always gets me, and with this one's fun color palette I couldn't help but build a whole mood board around it. There's a huge trend of candles that look like Greek sculpture right now, and while I chose a head for this board you could easily swap it out with a body to contribute to the "cheeky" (ha!) feel.

I saved this last one's graphic as "chill Tiger King" because I felt like that encapsulated the mood. This board has more of a retro funky vibe, with the stars of the show being the simple but well-designed accessories that pack a big punch, like that candle and the soap dish.

10 [bullet journal] Things

I've been keeping a steady bullet journal for two years now, which, if you ask me, is a small miracle. I summed up what bullet journals are and how I use them in this post last year, so this time I'm going to tell you about my top ten bullet journal supplies.

The most important thing is a good notebook. My favorite (obviously) are Field Notes notebooks. I go a little over the top and use a new notebook for each month. It really helps keep my creative juices flowing. I've learned that my themes have to vary from month to month or I just get bored.

Notebooks pictured above: Field Museum x Field Notes (sold out),  Expedition, Lunacy Edition (sold out), M x L x B x D Edition (sold out), custom painted rainbow mess, Cherry Graph, Coastal Edition (sold out), Campfire Edition (sold out), another MxL..., XOXO 2018 Edition, and Abercrombie and Fitch x Field Notes.

The second thing you need? A good pen. These erasable pens are my absolute favorite.

Really, truly, a pen and a notebook are all you need to set up a bullet journal. But there are a few other things I find myself using time and time again.

Need some help setting up? The creator of the Bullet Journaling Method has come out with a book. You can buy that here.

Because I use such a small book, I use sticky notes to add info to pages constantly. I personally really love the bright colors of Post-It sets like these.

Since I've started journaling like this I've found myself collecting unique office supplies. One supply I use in every journal (mainly to mark where my daily log is) is paper clips. I love the color of these gold ones, and these dinosaur ones are just so playful!

Along the same lines as the paper clips, I often tape tabs onto pages that I keep re-visiting. This set from Michael's is colorful and cute!

I sometimes need a pick-me-up in the middle of the day, and I've found that sticking a photo of my little monster on the front page of my journal is just want the doctor ordered. For that, I usually use an Instax camera.

And to stick the various things into my notebook (it's seriously like... a scrapbook/collage/doodle-fest in these notebooks) I usually use washi tape, purely for the cuteness of it all. You can get washi tape at pretty much any craft store these days, but I really love the colors in this set.

Sometimes I need something a little more sturdy to put my mementos from the month in, and that's where stickable pockets like these work really well.

If you're planning to switch journals a lot like I do, you're going to need a box to put them in. Field Notes has a really nice one that I've been eyeing for a while. I keep my journals in a simple box from a craft store that my sister wood burned a label and date into, and it looks awesome on my shelves.

As I said before, starting a bullet journal is as simple as having a pen and notebook. But as you go along, you might find that you need a few more things to keep everything organized. The only rule I have for my journals is that they reflect the things I'm into at that moment. My final goal is to capture how I'm feeling. Oh, and to help me not forget things. :)

Ten [for 12 months and under] Things

Monday, November 26, 2018

I love making these ten things posts, and I realized the other day that it had been a while. I was sitting on the floor in the nursery (because that's what I do with most of my free time now) trying to think of a topic when I realized I was literally surrounded by one.

So, here you go. A list of the ten things Ronan and I both love the most.

\

1 - You Are My Cupcake by Joyce Wan - This was consistently one of Ronan's favorite books. He still lights up when we read it to him.

2 - Very Hungry Caterpillar Sounds and Projector - First off, there is no AC adapter that comes with this. The box is a liar. Beyond that, we love this thing. We turn it on every night to help establish that it's time to sleep. We've been using it for about nine months and have only had to replace the batteries once.

3 - Zebra Lovey from Oh, Joy! for Target - Okay, maybe this one is more for me. Ronan hasn't really gotten attached to anything for bedtime (besides the pacifiers...) but I still think this is the cutest.

4 - Atom Rattle and Teether from Manhatten Toys - When Ronan really started manipulating things and trying to work them out I knew I needed to get him something a little more complicated than a plastic ball. This toy fits the bill.

5 - Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn, Game and Learn Controller - This toy we mainly bought just to keep our sanity. Ronan will sit next to his dad and watch the TV while pushing the buttons sometimes, and my heart melts.

6 - Cat Multisensory Teething Toy from Skip Hop - This is one of those crazy toys where when I look at it all my brain thinks is "there's just so much going on!" But Ronan loves it. This is the toy I attach to the stroller for long walks.

7 - Mula Building Blocks from Ikea - In Ronan's opinion, the blocks in this are just okay. But that wagon is pretty much the best thing to ever happen.

8 - Textured Ball Set from Infantino - These are a super simple but fun and colorful addition to our nursery. We introduced these pretty early on and he still plays with them.

9 - Stick and See Spin Wheel from Infantino - These are crucial to have when you're alone at home and you just need the kid to entertain himself so you can at least go pee. Put him in the high chair and attach this to the tray, viola, instant entertainment.

10 - Hippopposites by Janik Coat - I am constantly bringing board books home from work. This was the first board book that Ronan really became attached to, so we bought a copy for ourselves.

And, because I wanna make sure you know that I know what I'm talking about (haha), here are some pictures of Ronan using the things. This is how you really know what his favorite toys are... they're constantly popping up on his Instagram grid. Especially the Cupcakes book, it is in no less than 6 pictures.

Easter Baskets for Babies

One of the strange things about having a child is all the sudden you have, like, 200% more responsibility on holidays. Where it used to be that we just had to coordinate when to show up where, all the sudden I find myself creating detailed schedules of where we will be when he needs to feed, sleep, and be changed. On top of that, some holidays (Easter being one of them) require forethought and a little bit of work ahead of time if I want to continue in the traditions that my parents did with me (and yeah, this is one of those moments where I appreciate my mom and her ability to do this with not only one, but THREE kids.) So right now I'm realizing that I have a week to get an Easter basket ready, but I have it covered and will hopefully be able to help you, too, all thanks to Amazon Prime.

Keep in mind that my kid is only five months old, so these baskets are geared towards babies. I had a lot of fun putting them together with themes in mind, and hopefully, everything in there is something that will be used often.

For the Vintage Inspired Bunny Basket:

(Note- I got this for my baby's basket and the $8 book is quite small)
7 -  Bunny Ear Basket - $38 for 5
or

For the Mod Bunny Basket:

1 - Bunny Swaddle - $12
2 - Black Bunny Hat - $9

For the Textures Basket:

1 - Palm Swaddle - $13
3 - Donkey Lovey - $13
4 - Lamb Crochet Hat - $11
7 - Open Top Basket - $14

Those baskets do total to quite a bit, so I picked and chose what things I wanted to put into my little guy's first Easter basket. That's why I tried to find amazing items for each and every part. I hope this points you in the direction of some memorable baskets!!

Happy Easter!

10 [Christmas Tree] Things...

We haven't had a proper tree in this house yet. We have some pretty festive relatives that have let it slide so far, but I think if we tried to have our kid's first Christmas without a tree we would be disowned. (Not really.) (Okay, maybe kinda.)
So while I've been planning this year's tree, which has been a fun new experience for me, I've found a TON of cute ornaments. So here are 10 of them.

My Favorite Newborn Things

Tuesday, December 5, 2017

You see the posts all over Pinterest: 25 Newborn Things You Can't Live Without, 10 Items You Need Before You Come Home From the Hospital, or 16 Items Your Baby Will Thank You For. Eventually, though, for some reason, every single one of these features a Dock-A-Tot. I'm sure that these wonderful contraptions are incredibly safe and amazingly helpful, but who has the money for a $250 personal inflatable pool?
So here is my contribution to the "things I couldn't live without" lists. Except, me being the cheap person I am, everything is affordable. Even the big things. And everything is something we REALLY used. Like every day.
The basics: When we were shopping around for baby stuff, we were looking at price, ratings, and practicality. There were a few things I wanted to splurge on, and a few things that I was pretty sure we could get away with not spending so much. But I knew there were four things we would absolutely have to have. For the bassinet, we chose the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper ($190). It is the most pricey thing on the list, but so far I feel it's been worth it. I love that I can pull the edge down, it allows me to see him easily even while I'm lying down, and getting him out is a breeze. The Summer Infant Changing Pad ($15) is soft but waterproof, and we were able to construct a frame for our dresser turned changing table easily. For our car seat and stroller we chose the Graco Click Connect system, which is so amazingly simple it's worth every penny in my eyes, though, honestly, it wasn't that expensive. The SnugRide Car Seat in Finch ($70) and the Verb Stroller in Sapphire ($80) are such pretty colors, too!
The "Must Haves": these are things that, while I probably could have gotten by without them, I don't think my sanity would have stayed intact.

1. Halo Sleepsack Swaddle - $20-$30 - We have tried to swaddle using the muslin. Tried and failed. The nurses make it look so easy, but I do not have the magic touch they do. So when it came time for bed the first night after being in the hospital I pulled out one of these babies, and we've used them every night since. Thank God for velcro.

2. Boon Grass Drying Rack - $15 - My relationship with nursing has been complicated, so bottles have been necessary. And where there are bottles there are so many little parts. I had originally bought this just because it was cute, but I ended up appreciating it So. Much.

3. Fleece Blankets (Monsters Inc.) - $20 - This is just one of the many fleece blankets we have. I use them everywhere, in the car, on the couch, on the floor... they are just so nice to have.

4. Nuk Infant Pacifiers - $4 - Pacifiers are a bit weird. I felt like I was giving up when I gave one to my son for the first time, but I've since learned that they are actually beneficial for the baby, and help prevent SIDS when used during bedtime. These Nuk ones are great because they still have the tip that doesn't constantly get spit out like some of the others I've tried, but they don't leave a mark around his mouth.

5. Monster Snap Up Terry Sleep and Play - $8 - Snap up footies are our favorite thing to dress our kid in. They keep his feet warm, have easy access for diaper changing, and can be taken on and off easily while the kid is flailing. This particular one is my favorite. It's cute, comfy, and is one of the few things that he's been able to wear consistently for the past two months.

6. Fisher Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker - $45 - While I'd love to be holding my son all day, sometimes you just have to get things done. This rocker is great to be used as a place to set your kid down when you need to be an actual functioning adult. We keep the kickstand down and drag it into whatever room we are in.

7. Hooded Towel from Ikea - $8 - Our first few bath times were pretty upsetting for our boy, but as soon as we cuddled him up in this colorful towel he quieted right down.

8. Wipeable Changing Pad Cover - $15 - When accidents happen, this is the type of cover you want. A little leak can be cleaned up easily, without having to go through the trouble of replacing your changing pad cover.

The "Good to Haves": these are the things that I don't really need, but we have them and I've been really pleased with them so far.

1. Travel Electric Pump - $30 - We had some trouble with getting our pump through our insurance, so in my case this was a must have. I use this little thing regularly and it has held up well.

2. Plush Washcloth Set - $6 - These soft washcloths made bath time a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. It helps that they're adorable!

3. Pacifier Clips - $6 for 3 -  We are constantly losing pacifiers on the ground, so a good pacifier clip is a must. I love the colors on these, and they are constructed well.

4. Vornado Baby Nursery Heater - $100 - A pricey item, but this keeps our whole upstairs heated. Safe and cool to the touch, this thing is an adorable powerhouse. It's also got a little sensor to attach to the crib to make sure that temperature is maintained where it is needed the most.

5. Munchkin Changing Pad Liners - $8 for 3 - I love these so much I thought about putting them in the "must have" section. Having one of these down means the small leaks and messes that happen don't require you to change the whole changing pad, which is so nice. It also keeps the baby's head warm when you're using the wipeable changing pad.

6. VTech Audio Baby Monitor - $30 - This little monitor is great at picking up even the smallest coos. The one I've linked has two parent units, meaning we can keep one upstairs and one down. I love to use this while I'm doing dishes and he's in the crib. I feel like he's safe without me having to be right next to him.

7. Diaper Genie - $25 - This was actually one of those things I was convinced I didn't need. I was just going to go buy a lidded trash can and call it a day. But in the end, the Diaper Genie was about the same price, but with the added benifit of making my nursery not stink. The refills are a little pricey, but you can find cheaper versions that work just as well. OR you can also use plain old trash bags if you use this method from Mother's Realm.

8. Lifefactory Bottle - $12-$15 - This is just... cute. I've dropped it and it didn't break, it's super easy to grip, but in the end I like it because it's just so cute.

9. Ikea Changing Pad Blanket - $5 - Okay, I just realized I have listed 4 different things for keeping poop off of things but that's pretty much what being a parent is about. This one is great to tuck into my diaper bag and put onto the changing tables when we're shopping or at a restaurant.

Some online stuff:
This post "How to Rock Out a Newborn Schedule" from Mighty Moms was so helpful for me, mainly because after I read it I finally felt like I wasn't doing everything wrong. It's very frank real talk, while still being generally upbeat.

High contrast videos are helpful when babies are fussy and need a bit of a distraction. Obviously, I can't plop him down in front of the screen for hours, but a few minutes of videos will give me time to breathe. This video from Hey Bear is awesome, or, if you can't stand that music, try the video for Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. Both are baby tested, Mom approved in this house.

Oh, and if you're wondering how we ever survived without the Dock-A-Tot, a pillow is a wonderful thing.

Watering Can Round Up

Wednesday, November 29, 2017

Now that I've moved my very few plants inside and can't just rely on mother nature to water them I find myself in need of a watering can. I mean, sure, I can use a cup, but where's the fun in that? My hope is that buying a cute watering can will help me remember to water my plants regularly. I want my lemon tree to grow, dang it!

And there you have it! I think I might get one of those misters. Then again, that gnome is too cute. Arg, I can't decide. Which would you get?

Mood Board #1

Friday, July 7, 2017

Right now my wish is to park an Airstream in the back yard, renovate it with a super beachy vibe, and then take it on the road, wearing comfy worn out clothes and painting abstract landscapes the whole time. Dream life, yeah? I asked my husband if we could do it and he seemed a bit apprehensive. What, you don't want to birth/raise a newborn in a space that's smaller than our living room? Silly.

These jeans look like the kind of jeans you'd wear during lazy days around the house, which are my favorite kind of jeans. (Buy similar here.) (Or just go to a thrift store, buy some mom jeans, bleach them, and wear them every day. For style purposes. Or because comfy jeans can easily become a uniform.)

This tee was from Billabong like three years ago.

That bag is an old one from Bluma Project, but all of their bags have the same beachy feel.

Love love love these sunglasses from Ascot + Hart, but that could just be because they're called Gia.

Sometimes I want to give into the teenager part of me that just needs to cover her walls with beautiful pictures.

This. House. Tour. Is. Amazing. It's the house of one of the aforementioned Ascot + Hart owners, and it is described as "California meets Texas" which I guess really fits in with my tastes. I love how eclectic, casual, kid friendly, and fun it all is.

I cannot get enough of Mavis the Airstream. Jason & Sheena, the people who remodeled this little beauty, have such excellent taste. Everything is light, flowy, airy, and perfect. It's calming just to look at the pictures, I can't even imagine what it would be like to spend time in their little slice of heaven. Their Instagram is super inspiring too.

This keychain is so very cute.

The last photo is from the Instagram of one of my all time favorite artists Teil Duncan Henley. She switches up her subjects every once and a while but always has the same style and color pallet and I just can't get enough of it.

Other things that fit this vibe:

This scarf from Block Shop.
Everything about this outfit.
This girl power shirt.
This whole stinkin pin board of beachy locks.
