This girl is named Cori. For the coral. It's a horrible pun, I'm aware.
This piece has confused a lot of people haha. The thing around her neck is not a necklace, but more of just a decorative arrangement that is intended to frame the piece. But I guess if it rocks your world as a necklace, then a necklace it is haha.
I'm not sure how I feel about how this one came together. It doesn't completely fit in with my overall body of work these days.  I am proud of the face, though, because none of my other pieces have colorful faces, which is NOT because I suck at colors (proven here, I guess) but more of because I just really really like negative space. But I have to admit... shading is fuuuun.

Its been a long while since I've done this, so I thought I would start out with the first week's piece. Its called Maureen.
This drawing is still one of my favorites, and the world seems to agree with me, because it's gotten the most views on my behance page. (Only four, I've got a while to go before I'm famous, it seems. :P) Its got inspiration from my whole feral supermodel idea, with a bit of that watercolor trend that's happening right now aaand a bit of art nouveau.
I like to play with negative space and pops of color. I'm actually planning on doing that for my house, too. Mom wants me to hang all my work up since it fits the theme so well.

I'm very excited to say that

ten [front porch] things...

Man, I couldn't just completely abandon this blog. Making these ten things posts is crazy addicting haha. With the theme that I started like a month ago, here's the next room in my new house themed ten things, the porch!

I don't have any pictures of the porch, and right now it's basically just a junk holder (bags of plaster  and rolls of old carpet). But it's just your standard run of the mill front porch, with siding on the inside and lots of windows.

I'm going to tell you the truth... I kinda want my porch to be a little quirky. Partly because I myself am quite quirky, but mostly because I live in such a normal little town... I think they need and injection of different into their lives. Haha! I want the space to be somewhere where I can enjoy chill out and relax, but also can take the abuse of being used every day. So here is my inspiration.

1. I love this doorknob for my front door. So fun and retro!
2. I've always dreamed of having a beautiful black storm door.
3. Quirky planters full of plants I can't kill (Like cacti? Maybe?)
4. Chartreuse durable carpeting.
5. A black hammock instead of a porch swing.

My mom has convinced me that a bright blue door is just what I need on my porch, and she is totally right. I'm in love with this one and this one. And I think that this blooming monogram floral decoration would look just perfect against that bight blue.

At first I wanted to paint the ceiling with black and white stripes, but now I'm thinking I'll just install curtains like these. But after looking at this picture, maybe it's worth the extra effort to paint the ceiling. So cool!

I'd love to have some colorful hanging planters in my windows as well. This tutorial is great... and this one, and I bet I could make this one, and this one could be made quite easily, too. Oh! and I can't forget about this one for string planters!

I love this bench and these decorations. Gives a very casual vibe, though I feel weird putting up skateboards when I don't actually skate. Maybe I should take up a new hobby. :P

I haven't really given a lot of thought to lighting, but I love the look that these fairy lights give the whole space. I will defiantly be trying that.

Okay, so... I didn't drop off the face off the Earth. At least, not yet. I've just been, well, Inspired. Which, when you're an artist, is something you can't let go of. You kinda gotta grab on and take the bull by the horns or whatever.
With that in mind... wanna buy some art? I've got two originals for sale, and I plan on opening a print shop sometime soon. Contact me at jaleseman-at-gmail.com for detials!
And also... I don't know how often I'll update this. I feel that I'm finally doing something I really want to, unfortunately I don't know how much time that will leave for blogging. We'll see!
